Top 5 Buddy Cop Movies – In Honor of “The Other Guys”

The Other Guys Mark Wahlberg Will Farrel PosterThe Weekly Top Five is designed to get you excited about an upcoming theatrical release. This week is no different as this list focuses on the top five buddy cop films in honor of “The Other Guys” starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. Now, if this list doesn’t get you excited – I’m sorry. But I strongly suggest you check out the film anyway because it is very funny. My list is not your traditional list of buddy cop films, but they are some of my favorite movies.

5. “District B-13″
Very few people that I know have actually seen this French action film. The movie is short. The story is simple. The action scenes are fantastic. Think of the parkour scene in “Casino Royale” towards the beginning. Now extend that for the whole film, and that’s the style. David Belle is one of the film’s main characters who also was a founder of parkour.

4. “Sherlock Holmes”
When I first heard that Guy Ritchie was directing a new “Sherlock Holmes” I was pretty apprehensive. I love some of his films, but they do not exactly give off a Holmes vibe. I absolutely loved the movie, but it wasn’t due to Ritchie. The chemistry between Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law carries this film the whole way. The dialogue is hilarious. I look forward to their next foray into the world of Mr. Holmes.

3. “Hot Fuzz”
I saw this film before I saw “Shaun of the Dead” (in case you didn’t know, both films have the same creative team). Simon Pegg, in my opinion, is one of the funniest actors working today, and I love that in this film he is not in the comedic role. He plays it completely serious all the way through. The action scene to end the film is just awesome and completely over the top.

2. “Se7en”
I saw this film on DVD a couple years after it was released in theaters. My brother had it, and I wasn’t really expecting much. The opening credits creeped me out. Everything about this film screams “one of the best films of all time” from the acting to the music. The final conversation with the killer is fantastic. Perfectly written. Perfectly delivered.

1. “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”
This was supposed to be Robert Downey Jr.’s comeback film, but it did not exactly get the marketing it deserved. The movie is absolutely hysterical and extremely smart. Val Kilmer is at possibly the best I have seen him. The movie works as both a comedy and mystery keeping you guessing about what’s going on while making you life the whole way.

It's obvious that I love this list because there are 2 RDJ movies in a list of 5! Plus, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is at number 1, definitely deserves to be there! And throw in a little Brad Pitt and I'm all set! xD
