My 2013

A few days late, but I'm finally writing my "what happened last year" post. I think my 2013 had been pretty eventful. I am going back to last year's blog posts, and other social media posts, to help me remember this past year. (As I'm writing this, I realize that this is going to be one very long post).

Wizard World Chicago

It seems like I've been following Wizard World's tour lately; I went to the one in Philly, and then the one in New York, and I just came back from their Chicago con.

We decided to drive to Chicago, leaving on Thursday evening for our ~12 hour drive and arriving on Friday morning. I was exhausted, had only about 2 hours of uncomfortable, back-seat-of-the-van sleep in the past 24 hours. But I was there, and excitement trumped exhaustion.

2013 C2E2

I was in Chicago this past weekend for Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo. I was a little disappointed by the guest list. I really need to start watching Walking Dead and Game of Thrones because those guys seem to be everywhere these days.

The only guests I kinda wanted to see were Felicia Day, Peter Davison, and Adam West. Adam West canceled. I've been to a Felicia Day panel at a different con, and I've met her at yet another con. Even though I'm a big Whovian and I think Peter Davison seems like an awesome guy, I've never seen any of the Doctor Who episodes he's in. So, I wasn't really looking forward to any of the panels either.

I ended up unable to attend neither Felicia Day's nor Peter Davison's panel because I didn't line up early enough to make it in. However, I did end up in a few interesting panels. There was one of "Star Wars Origami," in which we learned how to fold origami light sabers and Boba Fett helmet. There was also Comedy Mutant, a stand up show featuring Brian Posehn, Myq Kaplan and Mike Drucker -- I thought Myz Kaplan did a fantastic job; my favorite out of the three. And I also went to a panel "Writing for Comics" that actually helped me a lot in understanding how to write in general. I wanted to go to "Writing for Television" but that one was on the first time slot on Saturday, which meant that it was too early for me. I kinda regretted it a little, seeing how much I enjoyed the "Writing for Comics" panel.

NYCC 2012

It was a blast. I would have liked to have been there just a little longer - I do feel like I missed a lot of things - but I had an amazing time! It's not like you could go to everything in these types of events. I didn't have time to actually walk the floor and see all the booths; I didn't even go to the Doctor Who booth! I only managed to go to the center, where Legendary, Marvel, Dark Horse, Lego, Nintendo, and Nerdist were. The one thing I hate about the whole thing: my iPhone's battery lasts about 4 hours! I couldn't take pictures or videos or anything or it would just die instantly; and I didn't want to waste time sitting down by an outlet to charge it. Some of the pictures here are stolen from the internet.

My first Con!

I went to the New York Comic Con yesterday and it was amazing! We weren't there long. Arrived at around 2 p.m. and left by 8.30 p.m. because we were tired. Sleeping more than 3 hours the previous night would have helped. But it doesn't matter; it was so freaking exciting just to be there!

Walking out of Port Authority in New York City, I already felt it. You'd see A LOT of people wearing graphic t-shirts, mostly of superheroes, and with their Comic Con passes around their necks. I got excited just seeing that.

Once we got to the venue though, the first thing I noticed was how crowded it was. The second thing was, all the cosplayers, and how amazing their costumes were! I should have taken pictures. These people are just awesome. I was too scared to drain my iPhone's battery that I kept it in my pocket most of the time. And now I'm regretting it. Anyways...

I know I'm not the biggest comic books/anime/video games fan, and I wish I was, but it was such an amazing atmosphere that I just loved being there. Walked around the booths, and then went to the autographing tables where we met Jewel Staite, Felicia Day and Sandeep Parikh. :)
