*NSYNC Flashback - October 1998

"NSYNC spent the beginning of October 1998 in Germany and then returned to the US where they filmed a Disney Holiday concert before spending the last few weeks of the month opening for Janet Jackson's Velvet Rope Tour. I couldn't stomach uploading Christmas footage yet (I'll save it for December) so here are some performances from Germany as well as some clips from an interview with MTV they did while in Orlando. This was during their Hilfiger period, so be sure to enjoy the coordinated outfits and baggy overalls! :)"

Manchester United 2-0 West Ham United

The Red Devils are back on track beating the Hammers by 2 goals at Old Trafford on this midweek fixture. Carlos Tevez gets his first start after a month, facing his former club, while Wayne Rooney who faced his former club last match is dropped to the bench. Birthday boy Edwin van der Sar is given a rest giving Tomasz Kuszczak a first team start.

Celebrating his FIFPro World Footballer of the Year Award, Cristiano Ronaldo grabs both goals inside the half hour mark. Nonetheless, the main talking point of this match would be Dimitar Berbatov's flick that created Ronaldo's second goal. (video after the jump)

The home side started quick and aggressive.Three minutes in and United got their first chance. Nani cut a pass across the goal and Dimi got through but his shot was well blocked by skipper Matthew Upson. United continued the attacks and created many chances but couldn't find the finishing touch. That didn't last long, though.

With United committed a lot of bodies forward, West Ham's defense needed to be on their toes all the time to keep up. In the 14th minute, Nani, from the left, crossed to the middle to Ronaldo, who got away from his marker, and he finished it with his left foot. Ronaldo who was criticized after his last goal for not celebrating, showed his passion this time. Guess he just needed his confidence back and the FIFPro award should do the trick.

Throughout the first half, West Ham had been having trouble with their right defense. Seemed like most of United's meaningful attacks came from that direction. That was also the case when United got their second. Entering the half hour mark, Dimi got the ball forward to the touchline. Right when James Collins thought he had Dimi cornered, he stopped the ball with his left foot, pirouetted and flicked the ball over the challenge with his right. Dimi sent the ball across the six yard box and was met by Ronaldo who tapped it into the empty net.

United kept on creating chances until the halftime whistle. The second half was pretty dull, since the home side was leading comfortably. I didn't watch most of the second half but nothing really happened.

Line up: Kuszczak; Rafael (Neville 82), Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra; Ronaldo, Fletcher (Carrick 68), Anderson, Nani (Rooney 68); Tevez, Berbatov.
Subs not used: Giggs, Foster, Park, O'Shea.

Look at the team we have! Even the bench itself would get other teams scared.

TRL Countdown

MTV's Total Request Live has begun their countdown towards their big finale last Tuesday, October 21. From last week, they have 3 shows a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) and fill them up with - what else? - countdowns. Check their website for the lists.

*NSYNC's Bye Bye Bye grabbed top spot on Top Boy Band Videos, while Justin Timberlake's Like I Love You was third on Top Ten Favorite Debuts (the video premiered #3 in 2002).

Of course, TRL has been a great stepping stone for boybands and other pop artists (or was it the other way around?) So you'd find a lot of JT/*NSYNC mentions there.

All five members of the Backstreet Boys will perform at the big finale. Yes, that includes Kevin. Still hoping that at least some of the *NSYNCers are gonna be there...

What will life be without Sir Alex?

These past 2 days I've been reading articles online about Sir Alex Ferguson retiring as Manchester United's manager after 2 more seasons. He was appointed manager of the club a couple of years before I was even born. As far as I know, United is his team. So what will life at Old Trafford be without him? Is anyone good enough to replace him?

Sir Alex Ferguson has proven himself to be one of the best - if not THE best - football manager of all time. He won 10 trophies within 8 1/2 years of managing Aberdeen, plus 22 major trophies in his 22 years with The Red Devils. He has created successful teams, giving chances to talented young players while building his latest team. His current team now consist of young stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Carlos Tevez, Darren Fletcher, Anderson, Nani, and the Da Silva twins, all under the age of 25. Of course, he has been lucky to have the resources United has, but without his ability to build winning teams, United won't have half as many trophies as they do now.

Fergie has stated that he has no intention of being a manager when he reaches 70. He'll be 67 on December 31st this year, which means he has until 2010 to continue his glorious career. As to appointing his successor, Fergie or Manchester United have commented that they have not think about it. I'm pretty sure they're thinking about it, and thinking hard. How can anyone be good enough to replace a man like him?

Some reports say that Jose Mourinho, former Chelsea manager and current Inter Milan manager, has been interested in this job since he started. The fact that Fergie might retire in 2010, the year when his Inter Milan contract expires, has people assuming that he's the one. Seeing how he was at Chelsea, I really don't Jose to be the manager at United. I really hate the way he talks to the media. He's too self-obsessed, it's always about him. I don't want anyone like that at United. Whoever the next manager will be, United has to be the number one priority to him.

I still can't imagine Old Trafford without Sir Alex. I know the time is getting closer now, but I don't want that to happen...

Sir Alex has built his latest team. The last 2 seasons have been amazing for United. With the young players maturing and developing, whoever replaces Fergie has to know that he's lucky enough to have a strong team to begin his journey at Old Trafford.

IT'S SNOWING!!!

My first snow this season is here!! October 28, 2008 =) I thought this is way to early for snow but it's way better than rain, which is supposed to be pouring all day long. It's snowing a lot, too! Hopefully it stays cold enough for snow instead of rain today.

Too bad I can't get my camera to work, I really want to take pictures of this. Most of the trees are still green but already covered in snow...

CR wins FIFPro World Footballer of the Year

Cristiano Ronaldo was named 2008 FIFPro World Footballer of the Year. The award was presented by club manager Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United's training ground, Carrington, on Monday.

With the 42 goals scored for United last season, as a winger too, Ronaldo is the leading contender for almost all individual awards this year. He helped United win the

FIFPro is the world-wide umbrella organization for the Professional Football Association around the globe, which means thousands of players voted. Recognized by fellow footballers as world's best definitely means something.

Team mate Rio Ferdinand was also named as one of the World XI team. He has consistently been the world's best defender added by the increasing technicality and leadership.

FIFPro team: Casillas (Real Madrid); Ramos (Real Madrid), Terry (Chelsea), Ferdinand (United), Puyol (Barcelona); Gerrard (Liverpool), Kaka (AC Milan), Xavi (Barcelona), Messi (Barcelona); Torres (Liverpool), Ronaldo (United).

Congrats Ron and Rio!! You guys totally deserve it!

The Bridge falls...

Chelsea finally lose at Stamford Bridge! After how many years?! Well I'm glad that they lost but I'm not really enjoying the fact that it's Liverpool who beat them. But... points dropped from one of the rival teams is always a good thing.

Hull City is still holding strong in the top 3, which is amazing! The fact that they won their last 4 matches is just unbelievable.

Everton 1-1 Manchester United

Two points dropped for sure! We could have killed the game off in the first half. It was very disappointing watching the guys drop points at Goodison, especially with how well we controlled the game throughout the first half. The Rooney incident (video on full post) might be United's highlight of the 2nd half.

Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra are back in the team after injuries. Carlos Tevez has to start from the bench again. Wes Brown starts ahead of Gary Neville, and Ryan Giggs captains the team. Louis Saha, Phil Neville, and Tim Howard played for United and now against, while Wayne Rooney, looking for his 100th goal, is playing his former team.

As usual, United started slow and they let Everton to have the first few chances. After about 10-15 minutes, United started to pick up the play and controlled the possession. For the rest of the half, the play was inside Everton's half. The pressure finally paid off midway through the half when Giggs put Darren Fletcher through, who slotted the ball through Tim Howard's legs. Many chances were created in the first 45 minutes but Howard stood firm and kept Everton in the game. Rooney could have made it 2-0 but his shot right in front of goal was blocked by Phil Jagielka.

The second half started and the game turned around. Everton gets more possession and looks more dangerous. The game heated up when Phil Neville, having fouled Evra, lunges a late tackle to Cristiano Ronaldo after the whistle was blown. The former Red received a yellow card, and some stern words from former teammates Ferdinand and Giggs.

After the hour mark, Neville turned provider for his team, with a beautiful cross from the right. Ferdinand made a mistake that lead to the chance. Fellaini met the cross and headed home the equalizer.

Things got worse when Rooney was booked for what seems like a fair challenge. His foot was high but he pulled it back when moving in to Arteta. It might have been the fans' reaction that made the referee book him. But when Rooney was walking away from the ref, he kissed the United badge and point out to his former fans. Sir Alex Ferguson pulled him off straight away, worried that he might be sent off.

MP

Found myself a new obsession, if you will. Matty Perry is so damn cute! Can't stop watching F.R.I.E.N.D.S and anything else that he's in. This time is different than before tho, usually it jumps from one to the other, but this one just adds up to the one before. Hmm...

I love the fact that he's funny. Who doesn't love Chandler's sarcasm?? And that voice he uses when he talks to girls, it's just... aaaah!! :) Yep, I'm going crazy here...

J post

So I haven't posted bout J in a while, even though he's been pretty busy lately. Pic on the left (credits to WoJ) is taken from the set of Rihanna's video. I assume it's for "Rehab" since it's the only song Justin produced for her.

So this past weekend Justin has been in Vegas for his charity golf tournament, the Justin Timberlake Shriner's Hospital for Children Open. *NSYNCer Chris Kirkpatrick was also there. The tournament started on Chris' 37th birthday. (Happy birthday CK!) And the picture below shows them having fun bowling during a break of the golf tournament. (link for a couple more pics)

Justin also performed for the charity, with guest stars performing as well. The show, Justin Timberlake and Friends, featured performances by Rihanna, 50 Cent, will.i.am, Lionel Richie, the Jonas Brothers, and Adam Levine from Maroon 5. The charity raised $1 million for the children's hospital.

For more pics and news of the charity or the video shoot visit WoJ.

Mr. Timberlake has also been recorded collaborations for his future album, but he wouldn't say the artist(s). He also said that he would like to work with Leona Lewis. "I'm going to go pimp myself to Leona Lewis, 'cause I think she's an amazing singer," he tells MTV News.

------------------------------------------------------------

Another *NSYNC news, 3 of the 5 guys would take part in Chris Kirkpatrick's fundraiser for underprivileged children. Chris, Joey Fatone, and Lance Bass will in Orlando this Friday. Justin couldn't make it, and JC is busy in LA, Chris said. Lance's partner in Dancing with the Stars, Lacey Schwimmer, will also be there.

Beckham to Milan?

According to BBC Sport, AC Milan has confirmed that David Beckham is joining the Italian club for a six month loan in January. Becks is currently playing with the Los Angeles Galaxy in the MLS, which season ends by the end of the week.

Reports said that the deal has been agreed, and Beckham would join Milan from the January transfer window until the end of the Serie A season

Some would say that this is a marketing ploy for Milan, recruiting the most famous football player in the world. But whatever their reason is, I do hope Beckham gets some games. It's a good deal for him because he would be able to play European football again, which will help his last few games of international career. I highly doubt that he would be in the England team for 2010 World Cup but at least he has a few more qualifying games he could participate in.

I was hoping that he would join Manchester United on loan between MLS seasons. Looks like it won't happen any time soon. Good luck Becks! He's a legend and forever loved by the fans at Old Trafford :)

---------------------------------------------------------
In other news, Becks was also named vice-president for England's 2018 World Cup bid.

Manchester United 3-0 Celtic

Wayne Rooney scored again in Matchday 3 of UEFA Champions League, which brings up his tally to 8 goals in 6 games for club and country. The other 2 goals were scored by Dimitar Berbatov, who scored 4 goals in his last 2 Champions League matches.

Patrice Evra and Rio Ferdinand were out of the game due to hamstring and groin problems, respectively. They're replaced by John O'Shea on left back and young Johnny Evans partnering Nemanja Vidic on the center of defense. Skipper Gary Neville joins the team for his 101st appearance in European competitions. Cristiano Ronaldo who was reported to be not fit enough to play 2 games in a week started for the Red Devils. Carlos Tevez was snubbed a position in the starting 11 and had to start the match from the bench.

Manchester United controlled possession right from the start, and created many half-chances. United kept the ball and pressuring the Celtic defense and goalkeeper Boruc. About 20 minutes into the match United lost their rythm and Celtic suddenly became the ones who had the better chances. Edwin van der Sar was forced to make a few good saves.

In the 30th minute there was a scuffle in front of Celtic's goal after a corner, and Dimi flicked the ball into the net. From replays, he might have been a tiny bit offside but Celtic's defense weren't at no fault either. There were at least 5 defenders in front of the goal but none picked up Dimi.

First half ended 1-0 for the home side.

The second half started with United picking up where they left off. Possession was 65%-35% for United. 6 minutes into the half, Manchester United got a free kick about 25 yards out. Boruc can only block Ronaldo's strike and the ball fell right onto Dimi's path who tapped it in to the empty goal.

Moments later Rooney was put through by Darren Fletcher and he went around Boruc and slotted the ball in. The assistant referee flagged for offside even though replays show that he was clean. Rooney wouldn't leave the game without his name on the score sheet, though.

This one was a well build move by the whole team. After a chance for Celtic, van der Sar picked up the ball and threw it to Fletcher, who passed it out wide to Tevez. A few steps later he laid the ball easy on Rooney who calmly controlled it and made room for a shot.

United are joint leaders with Villaraeal (who beat Aalborg 6-2) top of group E.

Ballon d'Or nominees

The nominees for 2008 European Footballer of the Year are announced and of course, Cristiano Ronaldo is short-listed. He should really win this year's award. I believe no one would need a reminder of how good he was all year last year... and the years before.

Other United players in the list are Wayne Rooney (who has a very big chance on winning next year's award if he keeps on performing like he does now), Nemanja Vidic, and Edwin van der Sar. I would love it if we have more United players on the list but we still have more than other Premier League clubs. Chelsea has 3 (Michael Ballack, Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard). Arsenal (Cesc Fabregas, Emmanuel Adebayor) and Liverpool (Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard) has 2 each.

An article at ManUtd.com is discussing how Rio Ferdinand is not in the list after his performance last year. I would have to agree with their arguments. He has been a class act for a couple of seasons now and he deserves some recognition.

The winner will be announced on December 2 in Paris. Quoting Gemma Thompson from the website, "if a certain Portuguese winger isn't beaming with delight at the glittering ceremoney in Paris, I'm sure I won't be the only one with something to say about it." I sure would!

CS 205

I'm in my Discrete Structures class right now and I just can't stay
awake! I had enough sleep last night and it's not like I slept too
late or anything. I wasn't that tired either. It's just that this
class will make everyone fall asleep... I came in 10 minutes late and
there's this one kid who's already asleep at his desk. Our teacher is
really boring and the subject is even worse! I've been staring at my
watch, waiting for the class to be over. An hour couldn't be any
longer than this!

Manchester United 4-0 WBA

Rooney was named Man of the Match, and deservedly so! I'm loving his form at the moment. He scored 8 goals in 6 matches for both club and country. His contribution to the team isn't only from the goals he scored, but he created many more.

Young Brazilian full back Rafael made his first Premier League start and he was impressive. To think that he's only 18! Tevez and Anderson were completely left out of the squad because they had a longer flight from the international break.

West Brom did their best to keep a point up for grabs. They were discipline and tight, and their goalkeeper made a lot of great blocks. United had the possession and created many chances, but unable to make it count for the whole first half.

Rooney had a goal disallowed halfway into the first half, with the referee giving a foul against Rooney for pushing. From replays it was clear that Rooney didn't do anything wrong. There was contact, but the slightest of one. He finally put his name on the scoreboard - and break the deadlock - about 10 minutes into the second half. Berbatov played Rooney through the left, who cut Donk and put the ball to the net inside the near post.

About 20 minutes later, Rooney turned provider and Ronaldo converted his through ball in. Moments later, it was Dimi's turn to grab himself a goal. A cross from Nani was deflected and Dimi calmly stuck his boot and get United 3 goals up. Nani closed the night with a close-range shot from (again) Rooney's low cross.

Great game for the great team. We're now 4th and in pace with the league leaders.

Rutgers grabs Homecoming win!

Rutgers football team won their Homecoming win today against UConn. We won pretty close, 12-10, and they had almost had a field goal and would have won the game for them. Well I don't really know anything about American football so I can't really comment on anything, but yeah, they won! Seems to be a pretty rare occasion this season, winning 2 out of 7 games.

Should have went and watch the game. I was almost 100% sure that we were gonna lose so I didn't think it would be that much fun... Anyways, GO SCARLET KNIGHTS!

Wayne's on a roll...

He scored 7 goals in the last 5 games for club and country. For the second time in 5 days, he scored twice in a match for England. The last match was Belarus vs England in 2010 World Cup qualifier, which ended 1-3 to Fabio Capello's side. This marks England's best ever start in a WCQ, with maximum points of their opening 4 matches.

Loving the Rooney we have now, hopefully the goals won't end anytime soon.

[on a side note, Cristiano Ronaldo is captaining Portugal and Park wears the armband for South Korea. Rio Ferdinand is vice-captain for England's national team. We have quite the team]

The new MacBook is out

So Steve Jobs unveiled the new MacBook and MacBook Pro. They look similar to MacAir. I kinda like my MacBook cos it's white. But the new one definitely looks cool. The new features are also appealing. I really like the new trackpad, made of glass and the whole thing is the button. The 2, 3, or 4 finger swap is pretty cool, too.

Eh... don't really know what else to say bout this cos I've only seen the pics and read Apple's website. Hopefully I can try it some time soon just to feel it....

Scholes out for 10 weeks... :'(

The win against Aalkborg seems to be costly for United. Midfielder Paul Scholes was stretchered off in the opening 20 minutes. He suffered a ligament damage and expected to be out for around 10 weeks.

Wayne Rooney and young Rafael were also subbed off for medical reasons but it seems like Scholes had the most serious problem. Hope all three get well soon cos we're gonna miss them...
