CNN: Our top 10 techie characters from the movies
When the South by Southwest Festival kicks off today in Austin, Texas, the cutting edges of technology and film will be on display.
Started as a music showcase, SXSW's interactive and movie portions have become equal partners in defining the festival (not to mention, in some small part, Austin itself).
Last year's festival prompted us to consider the precarious junction where music and geekery meet. This year, it's got us taking a look at those moments when technology hits the big screen.
Some of our favorite movie character throughout the year have been hackers, coders, gadget freaks and gamers. So, meet our Top 10 Movie Techies of All Time.

Waiting for Sherlock 2...
RDJ and Jude Law presented together at this past weekend's Oscars, and they might just be the best part of the night! They were hilarious and it just reminds me why I loved Sherlock Holmes so much: their chemistry. Plus, RDJ got his short haircut back and I'm loving it!

Shane Black for Iron Man 3?
Shane Black is in contention to direct Iron Man 3 for Marvel Studios.source
The writer/director has powwowed with Marvel execs about his take on the third installment in the blockbuster franchise. As of now he is being considered for the directing job, but the assumption is that if he gets the gig, he would also write a draft.
Insiders said that Black's involvement is far from a sure thing, and that other filmmakers were being looked at.
Marvel is keeping the story direction of Iron Man 3 -- which returns Robert Downey Jr. in the title role -- secret.
Disney, which owns Marvel, is scheduled to release the threequel on May 3, 2013.
The directing spot recently opened up when Jon Favreau, who directed the first two movies, announced he was departing the franchise.
Iron Man 3 would reteam Black and Downey, who worked together on the well-regarded Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which Black directed and co-wrote.
Black made his name writing high-profile specs in the 1980s and 1990s and, with movies such as Lethal Weapon and The Last Boy Scout, was one of the top writers in the action genre.
Boarding Iron Man would prove that the vet filmmaker isn't too old for this s***, to borrow a line from one of his movies. Several weeks ago, Black was tapped to write Death Note, Warner Bros.'s adaptation of a manga, and is working on Doc Savage, Sony's action project based on the classic pulp hero.

10 Best Hollywood Movie Trailers 2010
The 10 best Hollywood movie trailers 2010 sent all of us rushing to the theaters in a hurry. But only a few of the movies really lived up to the awesomeness shown in the trailers. The others had their funny parts, but some were just plain duds. Nonetheless, 2010 was a great year for movies, so here’s to reliving the best 2010 movie trailers of the year.
- "Cowboys and Aliens": Who’d have thought a movie with such a ridiculous name would render a great trailer featuring Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig? It must have something to do with the much-improved CGI since Star Wars.
- "Due Date": Fans of "The Hangover" went ga-ga over the "Due Date" trailer if for no other reason than Robert Downey, Jr.’s deadpan humor carried over from "Iron Man 2". Zach Galifianakis does wonders for the trailer, too, especially considering that his tubbiness does half the talking (and acting) for him.
- "Iron Man 2": Anything Robert Downey, Jr. appears in seems to be a hit. The most memorable line from one of the best Hollywood movie trailers 2010? “Pepper, I want one.” Referring, of course, to Scarlett Johansson’s character, Black Widow.
- "The Town": Ben Affleck and Jeremy Renner look especially menacing in their Grim-Reaper-slash-Catholic-nun costumes as they hold up bank after bank with machine guns. Jeremy seems especially criminal in the trailer, with his cropped hair, snarky smirk and down-to-business attitude.
- "Robin Hood": Russell Crowe’s Dark Ages grimace is forever set in stone in the prequel to Robin Hood’s outlaw life. As he pulls back the string of his bow, his arrow zings straight into camera focus, making it look like you, his faithful fan, were really his target all along.
- "Grown Ups": "Grown Ups" has to be one of the best Hollywood movie trailers 2010. After all, who can resist watching Adam Sandler and his buddies taking a leak in the pool? Except you wouldn’t have known that’s what they were doing if it weren’t for the telltale blue dye. Yep, you didn’t see that coming. That’ll teach you to think twice about peeing in the pool next time you go for a swim.
- "Despicable Me": You’d have thought Steve Carell’s character really would have carried the movie, at least according to this best Hollywood movie trailer 2010. But alas, the plot was painfully lacking and the only memorable quote was “Light…bulb” in an artificial Russian accent.
- "The Other Guys": You knew something was amuck when you saw one of the best Hollywood movie trailers 2010 featuring Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell. What you didn’t know was that you’d be spending 20 minutes of the movie listening to Will Ferrell singing with Eva Mendes or some tone-def dudes at a bar. It was painful.
- "The Expendables": Sylvester Stallone’s high octane action flick definitely goes down in history as one of the best Hollywood movie trailers 2010. With an awesome background song, “Diamond Eyes,” (courtesy of Shinedown), this trailer produced all the humor and violence required to send 80’s action fans to the theaters to see a bunch of muscle and weapons all in one place.
- "Red": Who’d have thought Bruce Willis would come through twice in one year? First, "The Expendables", where he only had a bit part, then "Red". The movie at least lived up to the hype given in the trailer, which was refreshing considering some of the other 2010 trailer duds.

68th Annual Golden Globe Awards
The Social Network won big, and I was happy. As expected, neither Jesse nor Andrew won in their respective categories; but the movie won in everything else: Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Score and Best Movie!! Too bad Justin wasn't there.
It's Hugh Laurie and Robert Downey, Jr. together! Gregory House and Sherlock Holmes. Wonder what they were talking about!
AND AND AND... THIS!!

There's no such thing as too much Downey!
Is Robert Downey Jr. the Busiest Man in Hollywood?

No one can accuse Robert Downey Jr. of resting on his laurels. Or anything else, for that matter.

It's just been announced that the actor will be producing, and may even star in, a film adaptation of Neil Strauss' nonfiction work Emergency!: This Book Will Save Your Life, which, according to Variety, is about "one man's journey on how to stay alive and protect his loved ones by learning to survive in the wild."
RDJ Playboy interview
If you were to write a script about a guy who had it all, lost it all and then redeemed himself in a miraculous fashion, you could do no better than to steal from the bio of Robert Downey Jr.
Back in the late 1980s and early 1990s it was hard to find an actor who showed more promise or talent. Films such as Less Than Zero, Chaplin and Natural Born Killers established him as a star on the rise; he was even nominated for a best actor Oscar for Chaplin, in 1993. While he continued to work, his performances got less coverage than his drug problems. He was in and out of rehab, gave brutally honest self-incriminating interviews (including one to PLAYBOY in 1997), was arrested on various drug, gun and trespassing charges and spent a year in prison. He became the poster child for a misspent life.
But Downey was still young. It took him five years to get clean and slightly longer to rebuild his promising career. Things started turning around with a little-seen film called The Singing Detective (Mel Gibson famously posted a personal bond for the uninsurable actor), but to show he was truly back, Downey needed a blockbuster. He landed three: Iron Man, Sherlock Holmes and Tropic Thunder , which earned him another Oscar nomination. Suddenly Downey found himself in the company of such bankable stars as Will Smith, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio. Of course, they had achieved success while young. When Downey broke through in Iron Man he was 43 and had already made 57 films. It’s a trajectory no other actor can match.
Now 45, Downey is filming a sequel to Sherlock Holmes and has started a production company called Team Downey with his wife, Susan. Sure, the name is corny, but it fits them. A seasoned film executive who became involved with Downey during his dark days while filming Gothika and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Susan was integral to his personal and professional resurgence. They married in 2005—Billy Joel and Sting sang at the wedding—and she produces all his films.
Downey next stars in Due Date, a raucous road-trip film with the star (Zach Galifianakis) and director (Todd Phillips) of The Hangover. Downey plays an uptight architect who rushes home for the birth of his first child. Circumstances leave him in a car driven by a wannabe actor (Galifianakis) with a spectacular lack of self-awareness and a masturbating dog.
“Actors who’ve been around bring baggage that leaves the audience with their arms folded, saying, ‘Show me,’” Phillips says. “Robert has baggage, but the audience has always greeted him with open arms. He’d been this simmering talent, and during that period he gained the respect of so many of us just waiting for an Iron Man or a Tropic Thunder to see it fully realized. I love this guy more than any actor I’ve ever worked with. He made me a better director, and he is literally the greatest talent I’ve ever come across.”
We sent Michael Fleming to Team Downey’s offices in Venice, California just before Downey jetted to London. Fleming reports: “Downey has changed a lot since I first interviewed him in 1997. He doesn’t shy from the past but won’t let you dwell on what is becoming a footnote in a remarkable life. Unchanged are his electric wit and sense of mischief. We started in the bright afternoon sun so Downey could get a tan to show off on the Sherlock Holmes 2 set.”

Stephen Fry is Mycroft!! :D
I have to say, this is awesome casting. Directed by Guy Ritchie and lead by Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law, adding the genius of Stephen Fry makes Sherlock Holmes 2 the movie with the amazing ensemble. Fry will be playing Mycroft, Sherlock's older brother.
Here's the announcement by Fry himself:
And I have to agree with my Twitter friends, WE WANT HUGH LAURIE AS MORIARTY!!
Here's the announcement by Fry himself:
I’m playing Mycroft in the sequel to the Sherlock Holmes film Guy Ritchie directed with Robert Downey Jr., and that sort of part is fun, but just once in a while to play a genuine all round sort of lead figure with complexity and tragedy and wit and all the sort of things that Oscar [Wilde] had was a once in a lifetime thrill.Mycroft Holmes is said to possess deductive powers exceeding even those of Sherlock. However, he does not care enough to do all the physical stuff in confronting the criminals, therefore he's not as effective a detective as the younger Holmes. Sherlock would come to Mycroft when he's unable to find the answers.
And I have to agree with my Twitter friends, WE WANT HUGH LAURIE AS MORIARTY!!

Forbes.com: Hollywood's Best Actors For The Buck
In these frugal times, which actors earn studios the most for their money?
LOS ANGELES -- Earning $20 million upfront for a movie is so 2007. These days studios are squeezing every cent they can out of actors, and that means many stars only earn the big bucks after the studio gets back its money.
In these frugal times it's useful to look at which actors earn studios the most for their money. Pay someone $10 million to star in your big summer blockbuster and what can you expect for your investment? If you hire Shia LaBeouf, expect a lot. For the second year in a row, he tops our list of Hollywood's Best Actors for the Buck.
