Ronny named Europe's best

Cristiano Ronaldo has added yet more personal accolades to his already bulging collection after being named the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year at an awards ceremony in Monaco.

The winger was also named Forward of the Year and received his prize from Portuguese legend Eusebio.

Ronaldo netted an incredible 42 goals last season, including the opener in the Champions League final in Moscow which ensured he finished as the tournament's top scorer.

The 23-year-old is the second United player to win the award after David Beckham in 1999 and he was understandably delighted with his latest personal triumphs.

"I feel very proud to have won these awards," he said. "Manchester (United) had a great season and I scored many goals.

"As a winger, to be named the best forward is fantastic. It is very good for me and gives me more ambition to become better. Thanks to my team-mates and those who voted for me."

The other categories were surprisingly dominated by Chelsea.

Petr Cech beat Edwin van der Sar, Manuel Almunia, Manuel Neuer and Pepe Reina to the goalkeeper prize, while skipper John Terry saw off competition from Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Carles Puyol and Jamie Carragher to win the best defender award.

Frank Lampard picked up the midfielder accolade ahead of Paul Scholes, Michael Essien, Cesc Fabregas and Steven Gerrard.

What's with all the Chelsea players winning awards? Fat Frank better than Scholesy?! That's a joke.. Congrats to Ronnie though, you totally deserve it!

Facts about the Beijing Olympics

Some funny ones:
7) Per capita, China won one gold medal for every 25 million people in the country. The United States' per capita rate was one gold for every 8.5 million. The tiny island nation of Jamaica, which won a staggering six golds in Beijing, had a per capita rate of one gold for every 450,000 residents. Had China won at that rate, the country would have earned 2,889 golds.

18) Michael Phelps would have finished tied for 9th in the gold medal count, ahead of countries including France, Netherlands, Spain, Canada, Argentina, Switzerland, Brazil and Mexico.

19) The rest of the world won seven golds in men's swimming events. Phelps, of course, won eight

Six Reds up for UEFA awards

After the sensational Double last season United players could well be in line for more honours following the announcement of nominees for the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year awards.

No fewer than six Reds – making United the best-represented club in the awards – appear in the shortlist of 20 candidates to be named as the best performers in their positions for the 2007/08 campaign.

Edwin van der Sar is up for the goalkeeper award while Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic are in contention for the defender gong.

Paul Scholes’ name is in the hat for the midfielder honour and front men Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo will be vying for the forward of the year honour. All of the candidates will also be in with a chance of winning the overall club footballer of the year award.

Reflecting the Premier League’s dominance of the Champions League last season, all but three of the 20 candidates for the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year awards ply their trade in England.

Of the other Premier League-based candidates, five come from Chelsea (Peter Cech, John Terry, Michael Essien, Frank Lampard), three Liverpool (Pepe Reina, Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres) and two from Arsenal (Manuel Almunia and Cesc Fabregas).

Coaches of the 16 teams that reached the knockout phase of the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League were invited to cast their votes, and the award winners will be announced at the draw for the UEFA Champions League group stage on Thursday 28 August – day before United take on UEFA Cup winners Zenit St Petersburg contest for the UEFA Super Cup at Monaco's Stade Louis II.

I gotta say, as much as I hated him during this pre-season, Cristiano Ronaldo should totally win this!

Thanks for all your contribution, Silvest!

Mikael Silvestre has decided to leave Manchester United and join rival Arsenal on an undisclosed fee earlier this week. It came as a surprise to me because I had no idea he was transfer listed or that Arsenal (and Man City) were interested. It said that Mikael was very close on signing with Shitty before hearing that Arsenal were also interested and decided to go for another red shirted team. Well I don't like the fact that he signed for a rival club but he is good enough to be at a top club, and most top clubs are United's rivals. Plus, it's better Arsenal than Shitty, obviously!

The versatile French defender won 10 major trophies in almost a decade at Old Trafford, but completed a move to the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday evening.

"I’ve spent a large part of my career at United, the last nine years, and I’ll remember that time fondly but feel I’m ready for a new challenge," he told the official Arsenal website.

"Arsenal is known for playing technical and skilful football, and has a young but experienced squad. I’m really excited about this next stage of my career, hopefully playing my part in helping the club to new successes."
Good luck Silvest!

Manchester United 1-1 Newcastle United

Wasn't exactly the best start of the match you'd expect, especially defending the title. I didn't watch the match myself, but we did have plenty chances that should have won the game for us. Missed too many chances plus missing to many starters ruined it for us.

Carlos Tevez flew out to Argentina because a family member passed away, leaving United with a not very fit Wayne Rooney and unexperienced young gun Frazier Campbell up front. United sure did have experience in the midfield area with Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes, but missing young starlets like Cristiano Ronaldo (surgery recovery), Owen Hargreaves (unfit), Luis Nani (suspended), and Anderson (away at the Olympics) didn't help. Michael Carrick got injured in the middle of the game as well, leaving fans even more worried with the further unavailable players list.

Newcastle scored first in the 22nd minute through Obafemi Martins. United's defense wasn't the best, and they made us pay. United hit back right away, through Darren Fletcher, with the assist of Ryan Giggs 2 minutes later. The match went on as if a lot more goals are following but they never came. Ironically United fans in the stadium had a mosaic saying "More goals please"

After the draw in the first week, United was left 10th in the title race. Chelsea won their first game by 4 goals, which is another bad news for United. But we must remember that last season didn't begin very brightly for the Red Devils either, but they ended up with the double. Yes, us fans want more goals, and hopefully in the next match against Portsmouth we start banging on the goals.

Microsoft/Bill Gates jokes (yes, I'm a Mac user)

They're pretty long but please enjoy :)

COSTELLO CALLS TO BUY A COMPUTER FROM ABBOTT

You have to be old enough to remember Abbott and Costello, and too old to REALLY understand computers, to fully appreciate this. For those of us who sometimes get flustered by our computers, please read on... for those who don't, you are too young anyway.

If Bud Abbott and Lou Costello were alive today, their infamous sketch, "Who's on first?" might have turned out something like this:

ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I help you?

COSTELLO: Thanks. I'm setting up an office in my den and I'm thinking about buying a computer.

ABBOTT: Mac?

COSTELLO: No, the name's Lou.

ABBOTT: Your computer?

COSTELLO: I don't own a computer. I want to buy one.

ABBOTT: Mac?

COSTELLO: I told you, my name's Lou.

ABBOTT: What about Windows?

COSTELLO: Why? Will it get stuffy in here?

ABBOTT: Do you want a computer with Windows?

COSTELLO: I don't know. What will I see when I look at the windows?

ABBOTT: Wallpaper.

COSTELLO: Never mind the windows I need a computer and software.

ABBOTT: Software for Windows?

COSTELLO: No. On the computer! I need something I can use to write proposals, track expenses and run my business. What do you have?

ABBOTT: Office.

COSTELLO: Yeah, for my office; can you recommend anything?

ABBOTT: I just did.

COSTELLO: You just did what?

ABBOTT: Recommend something.

COSTELLO: You recommended something?

ABBOTT: Yes.

COSTELLO: For my office?

ABBOTT: Yes.

COSTELLO: OK, what did you recommend for my office?

ABBOTT: Office.

COSTELLO: Yes, for my office!

ABBOTT: I recommend Office with Windows.

COSTELLO: I already have an office with windows! OK, let's just say I'm sitting at my computer and I want to type a proposal. What do I need?

ABBOTT: Word.

COSTELLO: What word?

ABBOTT: Word in Office.

COSTELLO: The only word in office is office.

ABBOTT: The Word in Office for Windows.

COSTELLO: Which word in office for windows?

ABBOTT: The Word you get when you click the blue "W".

COSTELLO: I'm going to click your blue "w" if you don't start with some straight answers. OK, forget that. Can I watch movies on the Internet?

ABBOTT: Yes, you want Real One.

COSTELLO: Maybe a real one, maybe a cartoon. What I watch is none of your business. Just tell me what I need!

ABBOTT: Real One.

COSTELLO: If it's a long movie, I also want to watch reels 2, 3 and 4. Can I watch them?

ABBOTT: Of course.

COSTELLO: Great! With what?

ABBOTT: Real One.

COSTELLO: OK, I'm at my computer and I want to watch a movie. What do I do?

ABBOTT: You click the blue "1".

COSTELLO: I click the blue one what?

ABBOTT: The blue "1".

COSTELLO: Is that different from the blue W?

ABBOTT: The blue "1" is Real One and the blue "W" is Word.

COSTELLO: What word?

ABBOTT: The Word in Office for Windows.

COSTELLO: But there are three words in "office for windows"!

ABBOTT: No, just one But it's the most popular Word in the world.

COSTELLO: It is?

ABBOTT: Yes, but to be fair, there aren't many other Words left. It pretty much wiped out all the other Words out there.

COSTELLO: And that word is real one?

ABBOTT: Real One has nothing to do with Word. Real One isn't even part of Office.

COSTELLO: STOP! Don't start that again. What about financial bookkeeping? You have anything I can track my money with?

ABBOTT: Money.

COSTELLO: That's right. What do you have?

ABBOTT: Money.

COSTELLO: I need money to track my money?

ABBOTT: It comes bundled with your computer.

COSTELLO: What's bundled with my computer?

ABBOTT: Money.

COSTELLO: Money comes with my computer?

ABBOTT: Yes. No extra charge.

COSTELLO: I get a bundle of money with my computer? How much?

ABBOTT: One copy.

COSTELLO: Isn't it illegal to copy money?

ABBOTT: Microsoft gave us a license to copy Money.

COSTELLO: They can give you a license to copy money?

ABBOTT: Why not? THEY OWN IT!

(A few days later)...............................

ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I help you?

COSTELLO: How do I turn my computer off?

ABBOTT: Click on "START".......

Foot-And-Mouth Believed To Be First Virus Unable To Spread Through Microsoft Outlook

Atlanta, Ga. - Scientists at the Centers for Disease Control and Symantec's AntiVirus Research Center today confirmed that "foot-and-mouth" disease cannot be spread by Microsoft's Outlook email application, believed to be the first time the program has ever failed to propagate a major virus.

"Frankly, we've never heard of a virus that couldn't spread through Microsoft Outlook, so our findings were, to say the least, unexpected," said Clive Sarnow, director of the CDC's infectious disease unit.

The study was immediately hailed by British officials, who said it will save millions of pounds and thousands of man hours. "Up until now we have, quite naturally, assumed that both foot-and-mouth and mad cow were spread by Microsoft Outlook," said Nick Brown, Britain's Agriculture Minister. "By eliminating it, we can focus our resources elsewhere."

However, researchers in the Netherlands, where foot-and-mouth has recently appeared, said they are not yet prepared to disqualify Outlook, which has been the progenitor of viruses such as "I Love You," "Bubbleboy," and "Anna Kournikova," to name but a few.

Said Nils Overmars, director of the Molecular Virology Lab at Leiden University: "It's not that we don't trust the research, it's just that as scientists, we are trained to be skeptical of any finding that flies in the face of established truth. And this one flies in the face like a blind drunk sparrow."

Executives at Microsoft, meanwhile, were equally skeptical, insisting that Outlook's patented Virus Transfer Protocol (VTP) has proven virtually pervious to any virus. The company, however, will issue a free VTP patch if it turns out the application is not vulnerable to foot-and-mouth.

Such an admission would be embarrassing for the software giant, but Symantec virologist Ariel Kologne insisted that no one is more humiliated by the study than she is. "Only last week, I had a reporter ask if the foot-and-mouth virus spreads through Microsoft Outlook, and I told him, 'Doesn't everything?'" she recalled. "Who would've thought?"

Eff off Terry!

From ManUtd.com

Fighting Talk from Terry

Bullish Chelsea skipper John Terry says United "don't have another level to go to" and insists the Blues are ready to raise their game this season.

Sir Alex's misconstrued comments about ageing players earlier this summer have ruffled a few feathers at Stamford Bridge. The Reds boss said that, in comparison to United's young and developing players, Chelsea's older squad will find it difficult to see improvement from last season.

Terry hit back regardless. "Sir Alex realises we weren't too far away from them at the very top of their game," he countered. "I don't think they've got another level to go to.

"Take nothing away from United, they've been fantastic. But they have a lot of players in their team who have hit peak form in the last two years. Every year we're going to give them a good go for their money. We're no longer a nearly team."

When you consider the leading lights in United's attack - Ronaldo (23), Rooney (22), Tevez (24) - and emerging talents Anderson (20) and Nani (21), it would seem to contradict Terry's claims that United will not see yet further progress. Even Vidic, Hargreaves, Park, Carrick, Evra, Foster and Fletcher are 27 or younger.

Ultimately, Terry knows the emphasis is on Chelsea to up their game: "We need to raise the bar. At the end of the day last season we wasn't good enough," he says. "It still hurts me to see pictures of United lifting those trophies.

"We need to set ourselves big targets: to win the Premier League, the FA Cup, get to the final of the Champions League and win it. Those are the targets." You can bet United's wiser, now more experienced, young guns will have something to say about that.
Oh come on! We have some of the world's biggest young talents and he's saying they won't be better?! IMHO, you're just scared of our young guns prospects so you WISH that they won't be improving. Just wait and see. Ronaldo was amazing in 06/07, and people say that he there is no next level for the guy, but look at what he did last season! That's what happen if you play for United.

United Community Shield champions! (again!)

For the second time in a row now, Manchester United lifted up a trophy a week before the new season starts. A good way to kick off a new season! United did miss one too many chances during the game, but we played well, really well. Tevez was denied a clear penalty arond the 70th minute (if I recall correctly) even though the ref was right there staring right at the Portsmouth guy literally hugging Tevez's leg.

The match went to penalties and Portsmouth sucked! Big time! 2 blasted way over the crossbar, one saved by van der Star, and only got one in. Manchester United, now a penalty shoot-out master, get all their spot kicks in coolly.

It was AMAZING to see Gary Neville back lifting the trophy! Been too long there Nev! He's back and bringing a trophy home..

just another post...

So we went out yesterday, I was with Kim and her friends. We went to watch Asterix and Obelix at the Olympics (if that's the title) and it was pretty funny. The movie featured cameos by Michael Schumacher, and retired Ferrari boss Jean Todt. Also there were French sportsmen Zinedine Zidane and Tony Parker.

Then we went to IES Teens church. It was really fun! The people there were so much fun and made things really exciting. The pastor was so cool too! And when we got there, there was this guy on the elevator who was such a gentleman! He held the door for us, let us in and out first, and everything. I mean he's just amazing! (too bad he's too young for me LOL)

We had dinner at Hard Rock cafe right after and the food was pretty good... There was this really hot guy at the bar but I think he was with his brother and mother. He was cute and really tall, and just nice to look at lol

Happy birthday JC Chasez!!

I believe today is the birthday of *NSYNCer JC Chasez, who was my fave back in the day. Could still be my fave if he would freaking release his sophomore album, which he promised to be "soon" since 2006! (Well *NSYNC did say they were gonna release another album right after they take a little well-earned break in 2002)
So happy belated 32nd birthday JC!

Arrived in Jakarta early this morning (not really that early but it's early enough for me!) and it's kinda funny cos Kim actually went to Surabaya at the same time. So we missed each other and now she's still in Surabaya going around with her friends.

At the airport today, saw a bunch of kids with a shirt saying OSN 2008 at the back. I kinda got emotional a bit, missing the days... LOL Don't know how that happened but it did!

Last month of summer break...

4 weeks from today I would be back at Rutgers in Judson suite number 4301. Can't believe the break is almost over. As I predicted, I haven't done anything useful. At all. I kinda miss my friends back there, though I'm a little scared that I'll be leaving my home and family for the whole year. It's gonna suck, but I'd get through it...

Manchester United is playing Juventus tonight, but they're not showing it here!! Damn the TV stations...

Going to Jakarta this Friday, probably gonna stay there for about a week. Should be fun. Miss everyone there.

Hoping for a better year starting this fall.

Talk about unlucky!

Massa with the incredible start, leading the race with a significant time, had to have his Ferrari engine blow up with only 3 laps to go! Massa started the race third, and with an amazing maneuver took over the lead passing the two McLarens. Man, I would be crying if I were him! That's a Ferrari engine! How often does a Ferrari engine blow up when you're leading the race with 3 laps to go?!

Kovalainen got his first win of his career, Glock got second which gives him his first podium position. A little good news for the Ferrari camp, Kimi Raikkonen finished third, getting him back up on the podium. And soon, he's gonna start winning again!

Kimi actually was closing fast, with 4 laps to go he was just inches away from Glock! Only because Massa's engine blew up, I assume Ferrari told Kimi to slow down and just try to get his car through the finish line.

Come on Ferrari!

Will miss you, Ole! :'(

Missed the match cos my connection isn't fast enough for a stream. Hopefully I can download the whole match when I get back to the States.

United won 1-0 with a goal by Frazier Campbell in the 82nd minute. It's a shame that Ole didn't get a last minute goal like he always does. That was really the last match Ole would feature in wearing a jersey. I know he's still a part of the club, but I will miss him deeply.

Good bye, Ole. Maybe another Solskjaer in Manchester United's jersey in the future? :)

*NSYNC flashback: July 1998

Just another funny Justin clip

Another one from the ESPYs, attacking the Memphis Tigers for missing free throws. lol Gotta love Justin!

Anyways, there's news that the Academy Awards people (dunno what they're called) offered Mr. JT a gig to host the Oscars, after doing really well at the ESPYs. They say that they believe Justin will boost the ratings up and get the interest of young people. Well you got that right. If only the awards itself wasn't too formal and boring I would have been watching them all these years..

Ole's Testimonial

It's in about 30 minutes and I still can't find a working link :( Come on.. this is too important to miss out on! Not liking the fact that we're up against Espanyol. Could have gotten a way better opponent. Maybe Bayern? This is Ole!

Anyways, not talking about F1 until Ferrari wins!
