Justin gives Chris a shout out, sings "Gone"

Justin's last stop on his North American "The 20/20 Experience World Tour" was at Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Chris was in the audience, as he has been for the last handful of shows. Justin gave this speech:

Which was followed by this:

I'm seriously jealous of anyone who was there. Seeing Justin perform "Gone" live would be amazing. I really want to go to another one of his shows. The sooner the better.

My 2013

A few days late, but I'm finally writing my "what happened last year" post. I think my 2013 had been pretty eventful. I am going back to last year's blog posts, and other social media posts, to help me remember this past year. (As I'm writing this, I realize that this is going to be one very long post).

Congrats Chris Kirkpatrick!

Yesterday, Chris Kirkpatrick married his longtime girlfriend Karly Skladany in Orlando, FL. The *NSYNC members were on hand as ushers, as revealed by Lance Bass on his radio show Dirty Pop:

The most intersting tidbit, though, is that the boys were wearing the cheapest rented tuxes from Men's Warehouse, because that's the Chris thing to do. Imagine Justin Timberlake, who has pretty much been suited up by Tom Ford all year long, with a cheap rented tux.

Anyways, congrats Chris!! :D

Update, Chris tweeted:

Wonder what the advice was.

The afterglow

That brief *NSYNC reunion that happened over a week ago? It still brings me joy to this day. I still watch their performance regularly. I watch it so often that I now expect "Gone" when I hear the intro to "Pusher Love Girl."

Not only was the performance itself amazing, the aftermath was a great part. The guys did a few radio interviews within the next few days, and it felt like they were doing a media tour for a new album.

A quick rundown on the guys' radio tour: Lance cleared things up on his own radio show, SiriusXM's Dirty Pop Live. Chris called in to his friend's show, XL1067 Johnny's House. JC did quite a few, to talk about the reunion and to promote his girl group Girl Radical. Justin went on a whole day (or two?) of radio interviews, answering pretty much the same questions.

It totally happened!!

Last Tuesday, I woke up to my twitter timeline full of "rumors" of an *NSYNC reunion. It was rumored to happen during the MTV VMAs, when Justin Timberlake is supposed to win a special award. At first I thought it was funny, because they were mostly on *NSYNC fan sites, citing one source. As the week went by, and the event came closer, more and more entertainment "news" outlets were reporting it. No one from their camp denied it, and then they took the @NSYNC twitter handle (they previously had @realNSYNC as their "official" but unverified handle), and sent out a tweet:

That's when I started to believe. I mean, why bother with the Twitter thing if they're not doing anything. Yes, part of me thought they would tweet "LOL NOPE" during the VMAs, but it's very unlikely. Whoever leaked this story (I'm assuming MTV) did their job well; I had no idea that the VMAs was yesterday until this happened.

The night came, I recorded the show because I wouldn't want to have to go through the whole show; I just wanted to see Justin, and maybe *NSYNC. I skimmed through the show, and got super excited when Jimmy Fallon went on stage. I missed the reports that he was presenting Justin's award, but it had to be him, right?

When they said Justin Timberlake was scheduled to perform, I wasn't expecting a ~15 minutes set! I've watched his performance a few times, but I still can't name all the songs he did in his medley. He started the show with "Take Back the Night" and he brought life to the event, turned it into a dance party. He did a little dance break in the middle of his set, and then the intro to "Pusher Love Girl" started while he walked to a different stage in the arena. He had been moving around the stages, involving all sides of the audience. As he reached the stage, four men were lifted from under the stage, and there they were. Justin noted "you asked for it" while joining his former bandmates. And then this happened:

I really wished they got the audio right. They sang the hook from "Gone" and I didn't even hear it the first time around. Then during "Girlfriend" JC had to almost scream his part of the verse. It was short, but it was definitely sweet. It's nice to see that a decade later, Lance is still the worst dancer in the group. The guys were lowered into the stage, left the way they came. Justin closed the performance with "Suit & Tie" and "Mirrors" before receiving his award from Fallon. He thanked his manager, his folks, and shared the award with *NSYNC (although he'd like to keep it in his house).

JC called in Ryan Seacrest's radio show earlier today to talk about the performance. He said that Justin was the one who called a few days (!) earlier and said that he's getting this award, and since their career started on MTV, he asked if the group wanted to do a little something to commemorate that part of his career. And JC said that if your friend called, you wanna be there for him, and that's why they did it. I just love these guys so much. Still. I think the call and when the rumor started happened pretty much around the same time. Great PR from MTV.

And throughout the night, my Twitter and Tumblr basically exploded with *NSYNC stuff.

After the jump, a bunch of stolen pictures, super short Tumblr GIFs, maybe even videos from the night.

RollingStone: The 9 Most Influential Boy Bands: Then and Now

Taken from here.
N'Sync 1998-2000/2005
The last time the five members of N'Sync appeared together in public was at the *NSYNC Challenge For The Children in 2005. After the game Justin Timberlake informed the group he was leaving. They decided to break up rather than carry on without him.

NSYNC IS TRENDING!

Right now, "NSYNC" is trending on Twitter, worldwide. Awesomeness!

I did love the NKOTBSB performance at the AMAs though. I just love boybands in general. But this just shows how much the world still loves (and waits for) *NSYNC! <3

Joey on The Baub Show

I love his interviews because the guy is friends with *NSYNC and were on their tours and stuff so he knows a lot of stories. So when the guys from *NSYNC are interviewed by him, they're more candid and relaxed. One story I absolutely love, though:

Around the 1:19:00 mark, Joey told us that about a month ago Chris and he were in LA, so they called up the other guys. Unfortunately, Justin was in the middle of shooting a movie and wouldn't be done until 3 a.m. or something like that. But the other 4 actually got together and hung out, and texting J along the say. It was the first time four of them got together since...the end of *NSYNC (I have to say it hurts to type that).

I just love it.

Also, they said that one big that that changed, was that JC actually picked up the bill! LOL! Funny!!

Plus, I learned that I'm not the only one who thinks Lance got hot after coming out! :P

Boy-Banders to Men: How'd 15 Stars Handle the Transition?

At a young age, they ruled the charts, but did they live up to career expectations as they got older? See our scorecard for faves from Justin Timberlake to Joey Fatone
  1. Justin Timberlake

Let Timbo's post-*N SYNC career be the yardstick against which all other ex-boy-banders are judged: he who hath transcended his frosted tips and Lou Pearlman puppet strings to become not only a massive solo star with six Grammys and two multiplatinum albums, but now an in-demand thespian as well (see legendary SNL guest-host spots, much-anticipated David Fincher Facebook movie The Social Network).

JC appreciation

I'm about to sink any street cred I may have with the cool kids or as a classical music major (or as a straight guy for that matter), but I like Nsync.  I think they were incredibly talented and I still enjoy their music.

Now, when most people think of Nsync they think of Justin Timberlake, who has gone on to have a stellar solo career.  But the other lead tenor in the group was a man named JC Chasez who, in my estimation, is one of the more talented performers of all time.  He danced just as well as Justin and was an infinitely better singer.  Whenever there was a high sustained note to be taken, it was JC, not Justin, who handled it.  As Timberlake put it...

"...in my opinion, he had the best voice out of all of us.  Out of all the boy bands, call 'em what you will, he was the one that could out-sing all of us."

*NSYNC-fangirling!

I heard *NSYNC's "I Drive Myself Crazy" played on the radio today and I giggled, a little bit. The fangirl in me was woken up once again. I love this song because Chris took the first lead. Plus, the video is so cute!!

Also, another fangirl moment, Chris posted this on his facebook:
And, amidst the many, many fan comments, there's this:
I mean... SQUEEEEEEE

'NSYNC Take Celebrity To The Top: Wake-Up Video

Avenged Sevenfold just ascended to the top of the Billboard album chart with a strong debut week, but back in 2001, a very different type of group found their way to the pinnacle of the list. On this day nine years ago, 'NSYNC began a three week reign at number one with their third proper album Celebrity. It managed to move 1.9 million units in its first week on the chart, good enough for the second best debut of all time. (The album with the biggest debut? The group's own No Strings Attached.)

Celebrity saw Justin Timberlake, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone, Lance Bass and JC Chasez exploring new types of sounds and turning the boy band template on its ear. Like their previous work, Celebrity is full of sugary melodies, dance-friendly beats and aggressive harmonizing, but there is more going on in the tracks than there ever was on any album of the boy band era. There are all sorts of futuristic production tricks, nods to hip-hop, references to obscure European dance genres and a whole bunch of odd sounds, pops, clicks and squeaks. It's a pretty amazing album, and if you think you don't appreciate Celebrity, then you probably don't appreciate pop music.

The best example of their evolution is in the lead single "Pop," which features a killer chorus and layer upon layer of aggressive beats beneath. The video is a technicolor nightmare that not only featured a great send-up of the boy band era but also a clear case for Timberlake as the group's breakout star.
