[Esquire March 2007] |
The first time I spoke with Downey was on the phone a couple days before I flew to L. A. "This is little Bobby Downey," he said by way of introduction, ...
And apparently, there are a bunch of Downey quotations that had to be left out of the article.
[Esquire December 2009] |
The same author goes back to Downey for another cover story for the magazine, this time after the unbelievable couple years he's had, with the success of Iron Man and Tropic Thunder, for which Robert was nominated for an Academy Award. His second cover, in December 2009, Downey has worked on Iron Man 2 and Sherlock Holmes, and was in a meeting to talk about the possibility of a sequel to Holmes.
Again, the interview was very candid and interesting. He talks about his successes and how life has been going on for him. He's always said in other interviews, too, that "contrary to popular belief, [he's] almost always broke." He reflected back on those days, and how much has changed now with the commercial success of Iron Man. The article stated how RDJ had just moved into a new house, with the money he earned from the comic book flick. The author described how nice the house is, and wondered if Downey is now set for life, money-wise.
The article ended with how Robert wants children with his wife, Susan. But with his schedule in the next few years with the Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes franchises, and Mrs. Downey is also doing her thing producing movies, it might be a while before they actually have kids.
