Barnsley 0-2 Manchester United

United's through to the last eight of the League Cup. The competition gives big clubs time to see how good their youngsters are, and United did just that. Sir Alex lining up a very young and excitingly talented squad.

Starting XI: Foster; Neville, Brown, J Evans, Fabio; Obertan, Anderson, Rafael, Welbeck; Owen, Macheda

[Obertan with an impressive display on his senior debut]

Debutan Obertan did quite well, and wouldn't be surprised to see him in the first team's bench later this season. Had very nice control of the ball, offered some great crosses and had a nice pace. Zoran Tosic, who was on the substitute bench coming on for Welbeck in the second half also looked bright.

[Owen scoring United's second goal]

My Man of the Match though, Michael Owen! Throughout the match you can see his placement is top class. It's just that the young players were trying to prove themselves, I guess, (or didn't have enough experience to see MO) that he didn't get the passes that he needed. Quite a few times he found space free of defenders. And his goal... its just amazing! He is a world class striker. Even though he's been missing these past few years, he's still got it and he's at the right club now to prove it. Should definitely be in England's squad for the World Cup if he's fit. Doesn't seem like England has too many strikers better than Owen.

Click here for the video. I've watched it so many times yet I still love it!
